Economic Information
Our local councils are very receptive to economic development, and are actively encouraging and promoting new business in the area.  Being located alongside of Highway #16 and a main Railroad line, Jansen is an ideal location for any new development.

Mining:
PotashCorp, Lanigan Division is located 36km west of Jansen, and employs over 350 employees with the many living in the area.  A 300 million dollar expansion is now underway, and scheduled for completion in the fall of 2007 and will create 120 new permanent jobs at the potash mine.

BHP Billiton is exploring the possibility of a Potash Mine in the area.  BHP Billiton is the world’s largest diversified natural resources company.  They have some 41,000 employees working in more than 100 operations in 25 countries.  BHP Billiton occupies industry leader in major commodity businesses including aluminum, energy coal and metallurgical coal, copper, manganese, iron ore, uranium, nickel, silver and titanium minerals, and has substantial interests in oil, gas, liquefied natural gas and diamonds.  

Agriculture:
Agriculture plays a major role in the economy of Jansen.  Located 10 miles north-west of the village is Pound-Maker Agventures Ltd., a fully integrated feedlot and ethanol plant.  The feedlot has a capacity for 30,000 head and the ethanol plant produces over 10 million litres of ethanol annually.
