Tornado rips through Rural Municipality of Prairie Rose
June 18, 2005
Story by Sandra Mills

The folks around Jansen, in the RM of Prairie Rose, came together on Saturday, June 18th to assist their neighbors in a clean up effort of their yards after a disastrous tornado ripped through their farms. The powerful force of Mother Nature destroyed everything its direct path, leaving grain bins upended, trees broken and uprooted, branches and debris scattered everywhere. What was left of wooden shop buildings was only worthy of a match. Totally destroyed. How thankful was every person who received the call to help, to hear that the families in each home were safe and untouched. Their homes, well, they look okay but only time will tell if the force of the wind actually caused underlying structure damage unseen at a glance.

The glory of this tragic event is the solid foundation of a community that no force of nature could ever destroy. This community came together in droves of people with chain saws, gloves and willing hands to clear the destruction and carefully saved what could be of the trees. Folks showed up with tractors, trucks, flat decks and loaded pile after pile of branches being cut by the chainsaw operators. An army of ants would not only have been in awe of the mass of people working in all corners of the farm yards; but also jealous of the huge spread of food laid out for the hungry workers to enjoy.

The families would like to thank all the people that came out to help.

The scene looked like a page out of history.

Jansen is an amazing community. A place to live, to be safe and to raise your children with real old fashioned values.
